The Department of General Practice & Rural Health is an academic unit within the Dunedin School of Medicine. It was the first university department of general practice in New Zealand and is one of the oldest in the world.
The Department is home to two of the three most productive general practice researchers in New Zealand (Thomson Reuters Web of Science) and enjoys an active research and teaching culture.
Staff in this department come from a wide variety of disciplines and are involved in teaching and research in the field of general practice and primary care.
We teach undergraduate medical students and have an active postgraduate programme which offers diploma, master's, and PhD level study.
Our research interests are broad and include rural health, medical education, general practice, primary healthcare, respiratory, patient safety and medical anthropology.
