Close Shave
8th April 2011

MorisonA group of fourth year medical students will not forget that hair loss is one of the side effects of chemotherapy in a hurry, after their teacher had his head shaved for charity to conclude their lectures on blood cancers this month.

Head of Pathology Professor Ian Morison, a haematologist specialising in leukaemia and other blood cancers, wanted to use his profile to support an organisation close to his heart – the Leukaemia and Blood Foundation – and the thousands of New Zealanders affected by these terrible diseases. At the end of his lecture he and five of his students had their heads shaved, a symbolic gesture that has raised more than $5000 for the organisation.
