University of Otago CHS: Centre for Health Systems

Performance improvement, economics, policy

The Centre for Health Systems facilitates and promotes research into health system improvement at the University of Otago, and across the local and national health systems, as well as internationally. It functions as a base for the wide range of health systems research presently conducted across the University, and as a focal point for those seeking involvement in health systems research.

CHS associates are from a range of University of Otago departments from the three Medical School sites (Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington) and the Business School. CHS works closely with the Southern DHB and has links with a range of national and international research groups including the Commonwealth Fund, Boston University Health Policy Institute, LSE Health, and others.

CHS aims to:

  • Facilitate and promote research into health systems improvement.
  • Bring together and coordinate the activities of those with health systems interests, and build a multi-disciplinary, cross-campus grouping with national and international links.
  • Partner with DHBs, PHOs and other providers in projects of mutual interest that will benefit the health system and services.
