The new Collaborative Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology and the Certificate of Women’s Health between the Universities of Otago and Auckland will enable you to:

Aspects of everyday practice are presented by experts in the field. Current controversies and daily dilemmas are discussed by the group at regular audio conferences. These papers are suitable for doctors, midwives, family planning trainees, GPs and continuing medical education registrants.
Papers may be studied as stand-alone subjects or for credit towards two qualifications.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology (PGDipOMG) consists of seven papers.
The Postgraduate Certificate in Women’s Health (PGCertWHlth) consists of any three of the Distance Taught papers, for example OBGX 712, OBGX 713, OBGX 715, OBGX 716, and either one Residential Paper OBGX 718 or OBGX 719.
The four Distance Taught papers (OBGX 712, OBGX 713, OBGX 715, OBGX 716: 6 points each) are taught by way of six two-hour evening audio conferences conducted fortnightly, covering topics in both Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology. Each paper takes 12 weeks to complete. All are assessed by assignments and multiple-choice questions.
OBGX 718 and OBGX 719 are Residential Papers held in Christchurch. OBGX 717 is a clinical paper, which may be taken only by students studying for the Diploma. It is a logbook-based paper with a multi station OSCI examination.

Admission to the Programme
Diploma of Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology

Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences) on the advice of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, who must be satisfied that previous training and experience fit the candidate to undertake the programme.

Every applicant shall have been admitted to a medical degree of a university in New Zealand or have been approved for medical practice in the country of residence while completing the programme.
Postgraduate Certificate in Women's Health
Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences).
Every candidate for the Certificate shall:
- have been admitted to a degree or diploma of a university, or
- hold an appropriate qualification approved by the Board of the Faculty of Medicine, or
- have been admitted ad eundem statum as entitled to proceed to the certificate, and
- present evidence of ability for advanced level academic study.
Structure of the Programme
Diploma of Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology
- The programme of study shall consist of seven papers (OBGX 712, OBGX 713, OBGX 715, OBGX 716, OBGX 717, OBGX 718 and OBGX 719).
- In order to qualify for the award of the Diploma, every candidate must satisfactorily fulfil the requirements of all seven papers.
- OBGX 717 shall normally be completed within a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 24 months.
- OBGX 712, OBGX 713, OBGX 715, OBGX 716, OBGX 718 and OBGX 719 shall normally together require a minimum of 12 months part-time study.
- A candidate, with the approval of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, may substitute for up to 18 points components of the University of Auckland's Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology programme.
- A candidate who has completed the equirements for the Postgraduate Certificate in Women's Health shall be exempted from those papers in the programme for the Diploma which have been previously pased for the Certificate.
Postgraduate Certificate in Women’s Health
- The programme shall comprise papers to the value of 20 points: any three of OBGX 712, OBGX 713, OBGX 715 or OBGX 716 (6 points each) plus one of OBGX 718 or OBGX 719 (2 points each).
- A candidate, with the approval of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, may substitute for up to 8 points components of the University of Auckland's Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology programme.
- A candidate, with the approval of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, may substitute for up to 6 points an appropriate paper offered by a university or equivalent examining body.
- In order to qualify for the award of the Certificate, every candidate must satisfactorily fulfil the requirements of all 4 papers.
Examination
- Every candidate must submit for approval a logbook, certified by an approved clinical supervisor, which documents the clinical competence and experience gained while a candidate for the Diploma.
- Candidates shall be assessed by written, oral and clinical examination.
- Candidates must sit the clinical examination in Christchurch.
- Each paper will be examined immediately following the completion of that paper. Candidates will sit the examination in a centre near them. Examination dates are notified to the candidates.
- A candidate who fails a paper may, on the recommendation of the examiners, be admitted to a special or subsequent examination.
The Coursebook
For each of papers OBGX 712, OBGX 713, OBGX 715 and OBGX 716 a coursebook prepared by the course teaching team will be sent to students before the commencement of the teaching programme. It will not only provide general information about the paper, but will also set out its objectives and serve as a frame of reference for the teaching sessions.
Enrolment for the Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology

Variations
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences) may in exceptional cirucmstances approve a course of study which does not comply with these regulations.
