Professor's Close Shave
Otago
Bulletin, issue 7, April 2011

Professor Ian Morison has his head shaved by hairdresser Robert Jenkins,
while four of his students (from left) Ed Stace, Isaac Campbell, Christoffel
Badenhorst and Sultan Al-Shaqsi look on. They, as well as Hamish Nicholson,
also went under the clippers this month.

A group of fourth year medical students will not forget that
hair loss is one of the side effects of chemotherapy in a hurry,
after their teacher had his head shaved for charity to conclude
their lectures on blood cancers this month.
Head of Pathology
Professor Ian Morison, a haematologist specialising in leukaemia
and other blood cancers, wanted to use his profile to support
an organisation close to his heart – the Leukaemia and Blood
Foundation – and the thousands of New Zealanders affected
by these terrible diseases. At the end of his lecture he and five
of his students had their heads shaved, a symbolic gesture that
has raised more than $5000 for the organisation.

Professor Ian Morison along with some of his 4th & 5th year medical students sacrificed their heads of hair for a worthy cause. They were raising money and awareness for the Leukaemia and Blood Foundation. Just as well it’s been relatively warm this week! (@DSM Newsletter 27 April 2011)
